How Much D?

You know it is good for you. You probably know it can prevent cancers such as breast cancer. Do you know how much Vitamin D you really need?

Here is a guidelines presented by world class researchers from U. of Toronto.

It is estimated that 25 to 50 percent of any healthcare budget could be saved with adequate vitamin D serum levels

Below 5 35 units per pound per day
Age 5 – 10 2500 units
Age 18 – 30 5000 units
Pregnant Women 5000 units

  1. Again, you would look at the 5000 unit mark, perhaps as much as 6000 depending upon various factors such as sunlight exposure, nutritional intake and others. I would not go above this number however.

  2. Too often people want to supplement everything rather than getting nutrients from their natural source.

    Some people may not be able to absorb or correctly process ingested Vitamin D but have perfectly good levels of Vitamin D from sun exposure.

  3. Part of the problem is that due to industrialized farming we are losing many of our natural sources of many minerals, trace minerals vitamins and antioxidants so supplementation is necessary. And our lifestyles are such that even though we live in the Sunshine state, really, most people don’t spend a lot of time out in the bright sunlight without sunscreen.
